SS 2 3RD TERM BIOLOGY SCHEME OF WORK

1.

  Review of last terms work; copying of scheme of work

2.

Conservation of natural resources...meaning, ways of ensuring it...legislation, education, erection of conservation; benefit of conservation.

3.        

Pests and diseases of crop…definition of pests, classification of pests…by the parts of crops     they attack:-stem borers, root feeders, leaf feeders, young shoot feeders, fruits and seed eaters. By their animal type – (i) invertebrate pests e.g. nematodes, arthropods, coleopteran,   Lepidoptera, larvae of butterflies, etc. (ii) Vertebrate pests- Birds e.g. weaver birds; mammals   e.g. rodents, monkeys Life cycles of pests; control of pests; diseases caused by pests and their   agents-viral diseases e.g. mosaic diseases, rosette diseases of groundnut, fungal diseases e.g.    mottling diseases; Bacterial diseases e.g. bacterial wilt, leaf spot, soft root, etc.

Reproductive systems in vertebrates- reproductive systems in fish, reptile, birds and    mammals; structures of male and female reproductive systems.

5.

   Parts of the reproductive systems and their functions; structures of the male and female   gametes (sperm and ovum/egg). Differences between male and female reproductive systems/organs.

Structural differences in the eggs of vertebrates; comparison of reproduction in fish, reptiles and mammals.

MID-TERM TEST / BREAK.

 Reproductive system in plants- structures and functions of reproductive organs of plants;     arrangement of reproductive organs in different plants; Types of flowers- hypogenous, perigynous and epigenous flowers; Kinds of placentation.

9.

Pollination in plants – Types of pollination – self and cross pollination.

10.

Features of self-pollinated flowers; Agents of pollination water, insect, wind and animals.

11.

Revision.

12-13.
